SCHWECHATER BIER AND WIENER LAGER

A beer brand with history

Schwechater has been pioneering achievements in brewing since 1632. In 1841 Anton Dreher presented his first bottom-fermented lager beer in the history of brewing, the world-famous beer Schwechater.

In order to revive this tradition, Pichler & Gattringer developed on behalf of Brau Union the nostalgic Schwechater Zwickl design, along with an appropriate gift edition.

We also take special pride in the Schwechater 0.5 l cans, the most popular canned beer in Austria. So we are particularly proud of the latest brand redesign, especially the newly designed Schwechater 0.5 liter can – the unchallenged No. 1 in the can beer segment in Austria – and the new label design, which also comes from the pen of Pichler & Gattringer, a moderate brush up of the design and increase of the distinctive red color on the shelf. The link to the famous pioneer of the brewing history, Anton Dreher, was also increasingly centered on packaging design.

In 2016, Schwechater beer celebrates “175 years of lager beer” and presents the “Wiener Lager”, whose recipe is based on the historical beer style of 1841.
The lettering in retro style and the label design for the characteristic bottle as well as the POS materials were designed by Pichler & Gattringer. The characteristic “Schwechater” color world in red and gold conveys the origin from the brewery Schwechat, the fine structuring of the label material creates the impression of naturalness and retrofeeling, both visually and haptically. And, of course, Anton Dreher, this important personality of the brewery, was also referred to as the creator of this beer style.
